Welcome to Salinas de Guaranda

salinasSalinas de Guaranda is a cozy village nestled in the volcanic Andean Mountains. Until 40 years ago Salinas was an isolated community that survived off local salt mining. Life was hard for the inhabitants but the people were resilient and incredibly hardworking. In 1971 with the help of a Swiss technical team and a group of foreign missionaries, the Cheese Cooperative was established as a way of combating poverty and marginalization in the community. The Cooperative model was incredibly successful and soon many other micro factories were formed including: a spinning mill, chocolate factory, mushrooms and fruit dehydration. Slowly but surely, Salinas has become a glowing example of economic solidarity, with over thirty agro-industrial businesses successfully operating in the area.

Today Salinas offers a unique tourism experience for those seeking to see a slice of Ecuador rarely visible in other tourist destinations. With our stunning natural scenery, we pride ourselves on the slogan "we do not merely offer trips, but rather an emotional journey through the Andes."
